Over 30 Sports Highlight 2015 Sunshine State Games Calendar of Events

TALLAHASSEE - The Florida Sports Foundation introduces a new look for the Sunshine State Games logo, a new sport and a new Summer Games Festival location in 2015.

Now entering its 36th year, the Sunshine State Games (SSG - 1980-2015) is an amateur sports tradition in Florida and nationwide.  This Olympic-style Sports Festival features more than 30 sports and strives to provide first-class facilities, a family-friendly atmosphere and professional organized yet affordable competition for athletes of all ages.

Events will be held in more than 10 Florida locations and will take place during eight months of the calendar year.

The 2015 Calendar of Events kicks off in February with its newest entry, the Sunshine State Games Dominoes Championships, to be held in Lauderhill.

The Sunshine State Games Artistic Roller Skating Championships finds a new home in April at Skate Reflections in Kissimmee.  Artistic Roller-skating is one of the original Games sports dating back to 1980.

The SSG Basketball Championships and Spring Festival, featuring Figure Skating, Lacrosse and Rugby, will be contested in June.  Alachua County hosts the Basketball Championships with competition divisions ranging from elementary school to high school.  The Figure Skating Championships return to Incredible Ice, the practice facility of the Florida Panthers.

The busiest SSG month of the year, June, features seven different events held every weekend during the month.  The Sarasota County Festival welcomes eight sports, for the second consecutive year, the weekend of June 6-8 and the Inaugural Palm Beach County Festival hosts seven sports the following weekend, June 13-14.

Other individual sport championships during the month of June include Swimming (Gainesville, June 5-7); Badminton (Orlando, June 20-21); Table Tennis (Lakeland, June 20-21); Water Polo (Coral Springs, June 26-28) and Track and Field (Clearwater, June).

The Calendar of Events rounds out with Sport Shooting Festivals in September and October and the Fall Lacrosse Championships in November.

The Sunshine State Games are a program of the Florida Sports Foundation, a Division of Enterprise Florida, Inc., held in conjunction with Florida’s local Sports Commissions.  For more information and schedule updates for the 2015 Sunshine State Games events, visit www.flasports.com or call toll free (866) FL-GAMES (354-2637).
