About Your Games

The National Congress of State Games (NCSG) is a membership organization comprised of 30 Summer State Games and 10 Winter State Games organizations. NCSG is a long standing member of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee’s Afflilate Organizations Council. The mission of the NCSG is to support State Games member organizations in the promotion of health, fitness and character building through multi-sport competitions and physical activities. The NCSG was created in 1986 to serve as the official association of the State Games Organizations.

State Games provide a motivational goal for all athletes within the state in which they are organized. Recreational and competitive events alike are offered, so whether participants compete for the fun of it or as the first step to their ultimate dream, there’s something for everybody in the State Games.

State Games competitions include Olympic or Pan American sports such as: Basketball, Bowling, Diving, Figure Skating, Tennis, Taekwondo, Gymnastics, Ice Hockey, Road Races, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Track & Field, Volleyball, etc. as well as a wide variety of local favorites such as Armwrestling, Field Hockey, Horseshoes, Pickleball, Mountain Biking and more. The quantity and variety of sports varies from state to state.

Each year nearly 200,000 athletes of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels take part in State Games competitions nationwide. An additional 1.2 million spectators attend State Games events, made possible by the work of thousands of coaches, parents, officials, sponsors and more than 100,000 volunteers.

BEYOND SPORTS

In addition to staging multi-sport athletic competitions each year, State Games organizations impact their communities through a variety of programs including character development and sportsmanship programs, tobacco prevention campaigns, drug awareness activities, wellness programs, efforts to assist underprivileged and disadvantaged youth, and a number of scholarship programs.
